Fail?

Well, you know those days when life just happens? Today was one of those and I wanted it to be a perfect training day, but that would not be real. I arrived home and warmed up for a bit and went after my power snatch (remind you I hate Olympic Lifts). I did my three sets of touch and go power snatches at #105lbs. Pathetic I know but that is the goal here to improve that number as well as others. The issue is more technique then strength (video to follow when I have a cameraman).

Shortly after my snatches my buddy and sometime workout partner Brad showed up and wanted to help me install the Stud bar pull-up bar I have. Well I couldn't refuse the help when it was available. 3 hours later the Stud bar is mounted with 7 out of 8 lag bolts being in studs. Apparently the first set of studs from the wall is oddly spaced. We then measured out further from the wall and thought we had it. but it turns out the stud runs somewhat diagonal. However with Brad's help we were able to get it up and secure (or so I hope). Brad had to run at that point and I have a staff meeting with my night crew at 9pm, so it was some light skill work on the movements that were supposed to be in my workout. I can tell I will have to scale hand stand push ups in the beginning due to an old shoulder injury and the fact that I am still building strength back. Toes to Bar and Double unders are still looking strong and should be o.k. when I make this workout up, possibly Wednesday.

as far as food for today, I had three eggs scrambled with a tomato, V8, a pack of emergency and a cup of coffee with coconut milk for breakfast. Lunch was some pork loin and fresh broccoli, dinner was chicken salad and fresh asparagus. We will see what the post meeting snack brings for us. Wish me a better training day tomorrow.

Well it's up now!

Well said my friend...

As the title says, "well said". I'm looking forward to see where this goes. As you know, I'm currently on business in Puerto Rico so I will be posting my travel workouts and all other workouts here. I was delighted to find that my resort hotel actually has a fitness room containing more than an elliptical and two treadmills. We got dumbells! So that coupled with some punching mitts, a pull up bar and jump rope offers a multitude of WOD options. Today my work partner and I warmed up with a full body stretch, after that, we started a 15 minute clock to work on punching combinations (1-1, 1-2,1-2-1,1-3,5-6 etc). After the punching warmup, we set up a fight gone bad type of circuit. Now, this was an extra challenge dealing with the vacationers that would waltz in and use whatever it is that we were doing....anywhoo, we did 3 rounds for reps of dead hang pull ups, thrusters with 35# dumbells, knee raises on one of those dip/leg raise benches?, and Burpees. All 1 minute stations on a continuous clock with a 1 minute break between rounds. My scores looked something like 78/69/81 for a grand total of 228 reps. All in all it was good to shake the travel cob webs off and sweat a bit. I cooled down with a bunless bacon burger and piƱa colada :) gotta live a little. Well, let's see what tomorrow brings....

Well, before we dig into my workouts and diet I guess I should share a little bit about my current status. I am a little bit out of shape now and have been for about a year. I have been playing around with several different workout methods. My overall goal is speed and power, with aesthetics being a nice side benefit. By power I mean strength and explosiveness and by speed I mean flat out running, I enjoy running a lot. I expect to see my numbers in every lift go up and my run times on 400m and 1600m go down. I will begin posting my workouts on Monday as long as what I eat for the day and how I feel. I will be encouraging my good friend Todd Angel to do the same.

On a side note, I am building the gym in my garage and will also post my progress on that as well as any good ideas I come up with or find for useful equipment. Also I love to shoot and you will probably get a regular dose of gun reviews and shooting stories. I hope people like what they see.

I think Todd and I would enjoy being a resource for anyone we have ever trained with and even those we have not met. I know I am not what people would call a natural athlete, I work hard for all of my gains and I think it helps me relate to most the people I coach.
